The Next Wave In Sustainable Building
The idea for Green Built came about almost a decade ago, when the victims of Hurricane Katrina were left without shelter, with mold-damaged homes and toxic temporary housing. A few years later, when Haiti was hit by a devastating earthquake and thousands of people were buried under collapsed concrete houses, the need to find an answer became even more pressing.
We looked for a healthy, durable, climate-resilient material that could provide high-quality permanent housing as well as temporary shelter. We found that the material we were searching for already existed; that material is hemp-lime.
Green Built’s home is in the Hudson Valley, near Albany, NY. We have hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. There are 180 million people within one day’s drive. There are tens of thousands of old, uninsulated brick and stone buildings and thousands more that are flooded and mold-damaged each year.
An Active Community
Green Built is fast becoming a community of people dedicated to proving that we can design and construct better, more lasting, healthy buildings with hemp. We are entrepreneurs, activists, architects, advocates and builders.
Accessibility & Affordability
We are working to make new buildings better than ever, and old ones better than they ever were. Our team is working every day to bring hemp-lime products to America, and to make hemp-lime materials affordable for all.
